God in the Laundry Room

A conversation in the laundry room.

I don't remember the day, but the year was 2013. I was serving in the Air Force and deployed to the Middle East. We had a group that would sit around in a circle and talk about God and religion after a long day at work while smoking a cigar. I had no expectation that this period would lead to an interaction with God. I was tired, deployed, and mostly just trying to make sense of things.

WHEN GOD TALKED BACK

One evening I walked into the laundry room to do a load. One of the two lights was burnt out. These were the tube fluorescent lights. I don't know what prayer is per se, but I was "praying." I wasn't reciting any of the prayers I gre up, I was talking to God at about everything I was going through at the time.

While I was in the room, I specifically remember asking God to show me that He heard me. I was asking for a sign. At that EXACT moment, the burnt out light turns back on! I froze. I was not sure that it was God, not yet. I know I asked for a sign and immediately received one, but still - it could have been anything, right?

I finish doing my laundry and pack up. As I walk out the door, the light immediately turns back off. The thing is, the light was burnt out. It wasn't flickering. It wasn't dim. It was out. I spoke to God - the light comes on. I finish and walk out - the light is back out. Walking past the room later in the week, that light was still out. This is my testimony of a time when I truly feel God talked back.

A REFLECTION

This is my personal testimony. I write this to capture moments I believe could be miracles of a sort. What about you? When do you remember a time when God talked back, answered a prayer, or revealed Himself? Make sure to document your experience and please feel free to share so we can post it!

I believe it is through these shared stories that we can help show the true power of prayer and that God is here with us now!
